In 1990 Breguet introduced the modern Marine line (Ref. 3400). However, it was following the Swatch Group's acquisition of the brand that the collection truly came into its own. Introduced in 2004, the Reference 5817 modernized the sports watch concept for Breguet. It remained a staple of the brand's catalog until it was discontinued around 2018–2021, earning a cult status among collectors who appreciated its unique "breezy weekender" aesthetic.

The center features a breathtaking, hand-executed "flame" or wave pattern cut using a traditional 19th-century rose lathe, the guilloché finishing. The dial is solid gold even in the stainless steel model.
