A Bit of History
The reference 2280 is deeply intertwined with military history. Thanks to the legendary dustproof and waterproof capabilities of the Oyster case, these watches became a top choice for British Royal Air Force (RAF) pilots and Commonwealth forces. During the war, Hans Wilsdorf offered a legendary program where British officers held in German POW camps could order a Rolex and pay for it only after the war won. The reference 2280 was one of the primary models supplied through this scheme.

Beautiful and very well preserved Rolex Vintage Watch from the early 40s bearing the ref 2280. This highly collectible watch comes in an Oyster Steel Case with a 30mm size. The case is unpolished and show some normal signs of wear. The oversized original crown is very well preserved. Original and very well preserved dial with embossed Arabic numerals and minute track. The dial has a very pleasant warm creamy patina. Sweep red seconds hand. Hand wind Rolex 10 1/2 lignes caliber.
