General Overview
The British Hydrographic service dates back to the 17th Century, when the Royal Navy was first asked to chart the British coast. For this service, charged with the challenging task of creating charts that would become the global standard for all ships, Vacheron Constantin created special chronometric pocket watches, as it was imperative that they have accurate high quality timekeepers.
Description and Condition Report
Beautiful and historically important Vacheron Pocket Watch. This rare timepiece has been made by the Swiss maison specifically for the British Hydrographic service. The case is made in Silver, and it’s wonderfully preserved with a cool oxidation. The dial is mint, with indelible writings and a beautiful argentee finishing. On the caseback there’s the military assignment with the H.S. (For Hydrographic Service) and the Broad Arrow (which identifies all the British military watches) engravings.
