General Overview
The Vacheron Constantin Reference 4870 is a vintage, self-winding wristwatch introduced in the early-to-mid 1950s. Revered for its balanced proportions, it features a 36mm stepped case, elegant downturned lugs, and represents the quiet luxury of the golden era of watchmaking. Launched circa 1954–1955 it was designed at a time when men's watches were growing slightly in size while maintaining ultra-refined aesthetics. The watch typically features a round, oversized (for the period) 36mm case.
Description and Conditions Report
Beautiful and highly collectible vintage Vacheron&Constantin watch bearing the ref 4870. Very well preserved 36mm oversized case, in 18Kt Yellow Gold, with screw back produced by the well known Spillman (Poinçon de Maître 136). Gold hallmark’s still perfect under the lug. The original white matte dial is uncleaned and quite well preserved for its ages. This is an early example of the reference so it’s aimed by the automatic P1019/1 Vc caliber (later on replaced by the K1071).
